Cold-Water Coral observation points in the Lacaze-Duthiers canyon, 2008-2023

This dataset is composed of presence and absence points of cold-water corals (Scleractinaria Madrepora oculata and Desmophylum pertusum, syn. Lophelia pertusa) in the Lacaze-Duthiers Canyon. Coral colonies are categorised according to the CORALFISH classification.

Raw dataset gathered from five cruises (MEDSEACAN_2009, CALADU_2019, CALADU_2021, ECALION_2023, PLAS-SCORE_2023) in the Lacaze-Duthiers Canyon. The objective was to map the distribution of cold-water corals (Madrepora oculata and Desmophylum pertusum, syn. Lophelia pertusa) in the canyon. This dataset was compiled to assess the habitats probable distribution (habitat suitable modelling) for these species at different resolutions as part of the European H2020 project REDRESS (Restoration of Deep-Sea Habitats to Rebuild European Seas https://redress-project.eu/  Grant Agreement No 101135492).

This dataset is related to the article “Mapping and Conservation of Cold-Water Corals in the Lacaze-Duthiers Canyon for Transboundary Management” submitted to Mediterranean Marine  Science by Fabri et al. in 2025.
